Kaley Cuoco revealed the unusual reason she sleeps separately from her fiancé, Tom Pelphrey, and why she believes the decision is a"game changer." Cuoco sat down for an interview with Dax Shepherd on his 'Armchair Expert' podcast, which aired February 9.
The pair covered a range of topics, from the actress's career to the impact of a house full of rescue dogs on her life. In fact, a house full of dogs is one of the main reasons that Cuoco and her fiancé sleep in separate beds. The Big Bang Theory actress explained,"Tom loves dogs, but the problem is, because we have two that are so old, they do that thing where they are up a lot." Cuoco joked that her pooches may have dementia."Oh, it's the little why are we barking at 3 AM at the wall?" she said. The late-night barking and the care for their two-year-old daughter, Matilda, began to take its toll on Pelphrey, who decided a change in sleeping arrangements was in order. Cuoco continued,"He was like, I can't do this anymore. And I'm like, I understand. So, he started sleeping in the guest room. Which, by the way, was a game changer." The 8 Simple Rules actress explained that Tom stays up late, so sleeping separately benefits both of them."Tom is a night owl. Goes to bed very late. I go to bed earlier because I'm the one who gets up in the morning. We have help during the day, but I'm up with her in the morning." Cuoco noted that she and Tom have "totally different" sleep schedules."If he's not working, he will tell you he's a night owl. He writes at night, he reads. It's his quiet time." The actress also explained that Tom is"up late and gets up late on a non-working day." Cuoco revealed that the American Murderer actor suggested the sleeping arrangements, and that she wasn't thrilled by the idea at first."We do couples therapy, and we love it," she explained."So he brings this up. At first, I'm like, What will people think? He's like, I never see you at night. I don't see him. It's not our sexy time, it's not. We don't cuddle, we don't see each other at night." The Ozark actor then asked,"Why do you care?" Before the couple agreed to try it. The Charmed actress also noted that Pelphrey did not"move" out of the bedroom. He simply sleeps in the guest room."It works great for us. We're so much happier," she said.
