Keagan Dolly has addressed speculation over whether Kaizer Chiefs will form a guard of honour for newly-crowned 2021/22 DStvPrem champions Mamelodi Sundowns. Full story ➡
The Amakhosi are set to play host to Sundowns at the FNB Stadium on Sunday in an encounter that will see Masandawana take to the field as the newly-crowned champions for the 2021/22 DStv Premiership season.
One of the biggest talking points ahead of the encounter has been around whether or not Chiefs will follow recent tradition and form of a guard of honour for their opponents ahead of the match's commencement. For star midfielder Keagan Dolly, who previously turned out for Sundowns, the prospect of honouring his former employers with a guard of honour is not something that has been on his or his teammates' minds ahead of what is a must-win match for the Soweto giants.
"The guard of honour is not for us [to worry about] as players. The office will handle that and we will listen to what the office tells us to do and we’ll have to do it," he said during the pre-match press conference on Thursday. "For us, it's not to focus on that. We have to focus on the game, do the best that we can on the day and try to win the game.
"Obviously they are in good spirits, they won the league, but for us, it's not to focus on Sundowns or whatever happens outside of the field. It’s just to give a good performance and get the maximum points.”
