UConn killer Kadary Richmond has found himself heading into monster game for St. John's
Watch St. John's guard Kadary Richmond in action on Tuesday, Feb. 4 when his Red Storm host the Marquette Golden Eagles. . For his career, he averages 18.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 3.0 steals against coach Dan Hurley’s team.
“I’m super happy for him, just even knowing that I was going to play at the same school with him, and just to see him find himself and put the team on his back, make big shots, make big plays, I’m happy for him,” Smith said Thursday. In last Saturday’s win over Providence at Madison Square Garden, he flirted with a triple-double of 24 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists and hit the game-winning shot from the foul line with 3.0 seconds left.
“He’s a good friend of mine, we laugh and joke all day, and just to see him come back into himself and make winning plays and lead the team while I’m out, it’s fun to watch,” Smith said. “He’s a good player.” “And I’ll tell you, in this day and age, you don’t get Kadary Richmond’s anymore,” Pitino said. “You don’t get that; talking about the team, deferring the praise to somebody else, Kadary has been a joy to coach. A humble, hard-working guy who’s getting better at his age, he’s like a fine wine. He’s just getting better and he’s just a great teammate. He doesn’t look for credit, he doesn’t look for praise. He makes a mistake, he goes, ‘It’s on me.
As for the UConn game, St. John’s is looking for its second straight win over a ranked opponent, but Smith said he and his teammates are trying to keep an even keel. “Just study and be prepared because it is a big game and they’re talented, they beat Marquette. We have a huge target on our back. We created a great buzz, so I just think we can’t get comfortable and complacent. We gotta keep going and achieve more goals.”
