Kacey Musgraves on Her New Album and a Second Candle With Boy Smells

The Grammy-winning singer reflects on the act of transforming music notes into fragrance notes.

It’s the way many modern relationships start: “I slid into their DMs,” singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves tells me of how she first started working with fragrance brand Boy Smells. Together, the duo created a best-selling candle inspired by the single “Slow Burn” off of Musgraves’s Grammy-winning second album, Golden Hour.

” She also found inspiration for the candle in one of her “favorite scents:” Baccarat Rouge 540. “There’s a gourmand sweetness, maybe reminiscent of childhood. But what we ended up creating feels grounded and new.” Boy Smells founder, Matthew Herman, calls the scent an “earthy gourmand,” adding that “it’s not gourmand in any traditional sense, but the beetroot, mushroom, raspberry, and saffron do add this yummy undertone.
