Kabelo Gwamanda resigned as the mayor of Johannesburg after immense pressure from political parties and a few motions of no confidence against him.
South Africans were happy that he resigned, although some were less pleased that the next mayor could be a member of the African National Congress, the announcement was made before 10 a.m. on 13 August. Gwamanda said he was humbled to be given the opportunity to lead the city of Johannesburg and credited himself with stabilising it financially and administratively. Gwamanda previously survivedGwamanda said he had no intention of stepping down as a member of the Johannesburg City Council.
