KOTA KINABALU: The Harvest Festival or Kaamatan in Sabah has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, says Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) secretary-general Suman Yasambun.
He said the decision was made after thorough deliberation with Huguan Siou Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan and other committee members.“The KDCA will not proceed with the Kaamatan Festival celebration this year due to grave health concerns, ” he said on Saturday .The Unduk Ngadau is selected every year to commemorate the legendary Huminodun, said to be the most beautiful maiden who sacrificed herself to save the people from famine to bring about a bountiful harvest.
This follows an announcement by the Sabah government that all gatherings involving more than 50 people must be postponed until further notice. On other matters, those who had attended the religious gathering at the Sri Petaling mosque in Kuala Lumpur recently have been urged to get themselves checked and to practice self-quarantine.
