Juul vows to halt U.S. ads—but a group it funded to stop a vaping ban in San Francisco says it won't follow suit

“Juul could not shut down this campaign if they wanted to,” said Nate Allbee, communications director for the Coalition for Reasonable Vaping Regulation, who says the campaign operates independently from Juul. The group, which has only reported funding from Juul in disclosures to the city, has spent millions on billboards, fliers and television advertisements.
The coalition reported receiving a $7 million contribution from Juul on Monday that made the campaign the fifth most expensive in San Francisco history—$1.4 million shy of second place. Under regulatory pressures from multiple federal and state agencies for its role in the youth vaping crisis, Juul announcedon Wednesday, including the replacement of CEO Kevin Burns by K.C. Crosthwaite, a former senior vice president at Altria, which holds a 35% stake in Juul.
“They’ve been extremely important in providing the vast majority of funding, but if they choose to stop funding us, we’re going to continue to do what we’ve been doing,” Allbee said. His group originated in May after it became apparent that San Francisco legislators would vote to
