The Horror of Dolores Roach finally makes its way to Prime Video on July 7, and Screen Rant is pleased to present an exclusive clip from the new horror comedy series. Based on the hit podcast series from Gimlet Media, The Horror of Dolores Roach offers a contemporary twist on the story of Sweeney Todd. Justina Machado stars as Dolores, who was just released from prison after an unjust 16-year sentence and finds even more hardship upon returning to Washington Heights.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Horror of Dolores Roach season 1 consists of 8 episodes, which see Dolores taken in by her good friend Luis . She lives in the basement of his empanada shop, working diligently as a masseuse until her survival instincts lead her to strike someone else down. That's when Luis has the brilliant and disturbing idea to hide the deed by turning bodies into meat for his empanadas — and thus begins their unforgettable adventure.
The clip above showcases the origins of Dolores' story, which originally began its life as a one-woman play called Empanada Loca, which was written by Aaron Mark and starred Rent's Daphne Rubin-Vega. After it was turned into a podcast that added Bobby Cannavale and more to the voice cast, Blumhouse Productions acquired the rights and has been working on a television series adaptation since 2019.
