“It’s not a disingenuous thing to say or premise, but season one was really built as sort of a prequel. We needed a motivating force to get them out of the country in order to serialize it,” Theroux tells. “So I think our true north is really to try and get them to the Mosquito Coast. And eventually to Allie’s Shangri-La and hopefully the family’s too. Those elements of the book are things that are important to me and to the rest of us, obviously.
“One time, I came down on one side or the other about the story, and then I regretted it. So I don’t want anyone to google what my answer would be,” Theroux explains. “I feel like a bit of a jerk for ever giving my opinion on it because I don’t want to deprive anyone else of their story and I don’t want to sway anyone either way.
