Several U.S. Supreme Court justices appeared willing during oral arguments Wednesday to uphold a Texas law that requires pornography websites to verify that users are over 18. The case centered on House Bill 1181 , which the state Legislature passed in 2023 and requires companies that distribute “sexual material harmful to minors” to use age-verification technology that takes in users’ personal details, like their driver’s licence or other government issued IDs. .
