The Justice Department, in a lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, claimed TikTok has “collected extensive data” onunder the age of 13 and has “failed to comply with parents’ requests to delete their children’s accounts and personal information.”also alleges TikTok was collecting data in accounts that were created in “Kids’ mode,” along with the other violations of COPPA.

The deadline for TikTok to divest or be banned domestically is Jan. 19, 2025. The company has filed a lawsuit against the federal government, claiming the legislation forcing a sale or ban violated TikTok’s First Amendment rights and the constitution.Presidential
