I have been recognized as one of the leading industry consultants, analysts and futurists, covering the field of personal computers and consumer technology.

When I need to search for something other than a simple restaurant address or someone's bio while writing, my new search engine is AI-based,. Labeled a"prototype" and only available to a select few testers , SearchGPT pairs a search engine with the power of AI to summarize answers — even about current events — not just serve up a list of links.”

A revenue-sharing model with advertisers is a big deal. Today, when a business advertises on traditional search engines, all ad revenue goes to the company providing the search engine. Google also sees AI search in its future, but currently, it has given no hint if it could begin similar revenue sharing with advertisers in its Gemini AI search engine.

Google's competitors in AI search, OpenAI, and Perplexity have taken differing paths. OpenAI will pay licensing fees to publishers, while Perplexity pays publishers only when their content is used in answers that have their advertising. That is why, when I saw the news this week that the Justice Department ruled that Google is a monopoly in search, I actually chuckled. Their reasoning and case were based on this old model, and it clearly has merit today.
