A new, wide-ranging survey has revealed the opinions of U.S. Jews on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with a minority of those surveyed believing Israel and Palestine seek peace amid their heightening conflicts.

Only one-third of U.S. Jews who took part in a survey released Tuesday believe Israel desires peace with Palestine as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict sharply escalates, theThe Pew Research Center conducted the survey of 4,178 Jewish Americans between November 2019 and June 2020.

The survey estimated the total Jewish population about 2.3% of the national population, about 7.5 million.A large majority of Orthodox Jews, 86%, rated former President's handling of policy toward Israel"excellent" or"good," compared to the majority of all U.S. Jews who said it was"fair" or"poor." Yet even as the Jewish population is thriving in many ways, concerns about antisemitism rose amid the deadly attacks in 2018 and 2019 on the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh; the Chabad of Poway synagogue in Poway, California; and a kosher grocery store in Jersey City, New Jersey.

The impact of such worries on people's behavior seems limited: Pew reported that the vast majority of American Jews—including those who feel less safe—say concern about antisemitism hasn't deterred them from participating in Jewish observances and events.
