Just before she was to go to trial, Samantha Leigh Castillo pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter. The jury gave her 8 years.
A San Antonio woman who killed a cyclist in a drunken-driving crash in front of Central Catholic High School has been sentenced to eight years in prison. Samantha Leigh Castillo is in the Bexar County jail, awaiting a transfer to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to begin her prison term for killing Beatrice 'Bea' Gonzalez , 44, on April 7, 2021.
on June 28, opted to give her less-than-maximum sentence. San Antonio police said Castillo, then 24, had been drinking at an unidentified bar the evening of April 7, 2021. Around 8:30 p.m., witnesses said they saw her speeding in the 1400 block of North St. Mary's Street when she veered off the road, jumped a curb and drove on the sidewalk. Her black sedan struck Gonzalez, who was waiting for her cycling group to catch up to her at the entrance of Central Catholic High School.
