Jurors began deliberating Tuesday in the trial of two Aurora police officers charged in the death of Elijah McClain more than four years ago.Roedema, 41, and Rosenblatt, 34, are each charged with reckless manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and assault in connection with McClain’s 2019 death.
A separate jury trial for Woodyard is scheduled to start Friday with jury selection, and Cooper and Cichuniec are scheduled for a trial in November. Defense attorneys for Roedema and Roenblatt did not present any witnesses or evidence, instead relying on cross examination to make their case. They argued that the paramedics who injected McClain with ketamine caused his death, and that the officers’ actions were reasonable and did not contribute to McClain’s killing.that he could not say whether the officers’ actions contributed to McClain’s death. He found the cause of death to be a too-large dose of ketamine following forcible restraint.
