A jury on Thursday found an 81-year-old art appraiser and attorney guilty of charges that accused him of trying to meet an agent posing online as a 15-year-old boy for sex last year.
, was convicted of attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, importuning and possession of criminal tools, all felonies.Corcoran will have to register as a sex offender for 25 years as a result of his conviction. He faces a maximum sentence of 42 months in prison.
. Corcoran showed up to a home in Newburgh Heights with condoms, lubricant and a bottle of Belgian beer after chatting for several hours with an undercover agent posing online as a 15-year-old boy. Testimony and copies of messages from Corcoran’s phone showed that the undercover agent told Corcoran his age one time, in a message that brought up his “15 yo lyfe lol.”
Corcoran’s attorney, Justin Weatherly, told jurors in closing arguments that there was no evidence that Corcoran knew what the message “15 yo lyfe” meant or that he even saw it. Weatherly said Corcoran believed he was meeting up with an 18-year-old man and accused the task force of not making it clear enough to Corcoran that agent was supposed to be a child.
