According to franchise producer Frank Marshall, there could be a lot more life left in the JurassicWorld franchise after Dominion: 'We're definitely looking to do more in the 'Jurassic' world.'
Jurassic World producer Frank Marshall hints there could be more movies ahead for the franchise following this year's Dominion. Seven years after the Jurassic series returned to the big screen with Jurassic World, it's set to close out an era this June. Originally scheduled to debut in theaters last year, Jurassic World: Dominion is expected to complete the current trilogy with an adventure that spans franchise past and present.
With Jurassic World: Dominion having been postponed by one year, the future for the dinosaur franchise remains a giant question mark. By all accounts, Dominion will be the last film in this current trilogy; director Colin Trevorrow said last year that it wraps up the entire franchise, Park included. However, projects like the Netflix series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous have shown there is room for other stories set within this world.
"I think that 'Dominion's' going to wrap up this trilogy, but we're not resting on our laurels. We're going to sit down, and we're going to see what the future is. We have that wonderful series, 'Camp Cretaceous,' on Netflix. We obviously want to make quality, good movies with great storytelling, great writers and directors, but we're definitely looking to do more in the 'Jurassic' world.
It isn't uncommon for franchises these days to operate less as one story and more like multiple sagas set within one fantastical world. Camp Cretaceous was the first real deep dive into the Jurassic universe outside of the main movies, and it's shown there are so many ways future projects can reframe the series fans already know so well. With that in mind, it isn't surprising the powers that be behind Jurassic World are already considering what other stories might be told someday.
It helps that the Jurassic World movies have been blockbusters at the box office. In an age where known IP is more crucial than ever to financial success, it would make sense to keep Jurassic World going in some way or another. Whether that means there will be a Jurassic World 4 or some kind of spin-off remains to be seen, but fans shouldn't count the dinosaurs out just yet. Perhaps Dominion will offer some clues about where things can go next. We'll find out more in June. .
