One simple effect was very difficult to pull off.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Jurassic Park is one of the most celebrated movies of all time when it comes to practical effects, but one of its most memorable moments was surprisingly hard to accomplish. The gifted effects team behind the film took home the Oscar for Best Visual Effects in 1993 for their work on Jurassic Park, and most of the effects — particularly in regard to the dinosaurs themselves — stand up to modern CGI when it comes to realism.

Much of the tension that is created throughout Jurassic Park is a direct result of the effects work. In fact, one of movie's most iconic and unsettling scenes takes place right before a dinosaur appears on-screen. The entrance of the T-Rex in Jurassic Park is extremely well-known, as is the lead-up to its arrival. It turns out that this simple moment before the T-Rex emerges was quite a challenge to bring to life.

Jurassic Park's Rippling Water Was Surprisingly Hard To Do As Jurassic Park's main characters sit in their broken-down Jeeps in the rain, they are made aware that the park's ultimate predator is slowly approaching by faint thudding in the distance, accompanied by the now-iconic water ripples in their cups. The distinct and specific concentric circles indicate the ground shaking ever so slightly due to the T-Rex's heavy footfalls.

Why Getting The Rippling Water Shot Right Mattered So Much It seems like such a small detail, but to Spielberg and movie fans across the world, the water cup ripples are as iconic and important as the deep, repetitive theme music that accompanies Jaws when the mighty shark is approaching. In both instances, it has everything to do with creating tension — that sense that something deadly and dangerous is coming, and it's getting closer by the second.
