Explore the diverse acting career of Juno Temple, highlighting her standout performances in movies like Unsane, Far From the Maddening Crowd, and Atonement.
The best Juno Temple movies and TV shows demonstrate just how wide the range of the Fargo and Ted Lasso star truly is. Born in London in 1989, the Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy nominated actress Juno Temple has been an active presence on screens since 1997. However, her first credited appearance came in 2000’s Pandaemonium, which was directed by her father, filmmaker Julien Temple.
Juno Temple received acclaim during her early roles in films like Notes on a Scandal and Atonement, and also almost played the role of Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (though lost the role to Evanna Lynch). While she has been a consistent performer since her debut, it’s in the 2020s that her career has truly started to take off, as the best Juno Temple movies and TV shows reveal. 2018’s Unsane is a relatively under-the-radar psychological thriller from celebrated director Steven Soderbergh. It earns its place among the best Juno Temple movies not because of the strength of the film itself (though it was a celebrated release, as evidenced by its 80% score on Rotten Tomatoes), but because of Juno Temple’s performance as Violet. Violet in Unsane is a patient at a psychiatric hospital, and it’s unlike any other role of Temple’s career. The unstable Violet is portrayed as an antagonist in Unsane, at least from the perspective of Claire Foy’s Sawyer. Juno Temple plays the part incredibly well, displaying a side of her talent she has yet to demonstrate in any of her other movies or TV shows. While it’s not the most central role of her career, or her most prominent appearance, Unsane stands as the perfect example of her skills in genres outside of comedies or dramas. The British romantic drama Far from the Maddening Crowd was adapted from the 1874 novel of the same name by Thomas Hardy, and featured Juno Temple as part of a solid UK cast that also included Carey Mulligan, Tom Sturridge, and Michael Sheen. Juno Temple’s character, Fanny Robin, is one of the most tragic characters she’s portrayed in her career, and one that allowed her to demonstrate her skills at creating emotive tear-jerking moments in period pieces. Set in the 19th century, Fanny’s story in Far from the Maddening Crowd is a parallel narrative to the central arc of Carey Mulligan’s Bathesba - though is arguably more memorable. Fanny’s life is turned upside-down when she misses her own wedding due to arriving at the wrong church. This leads her life down a tragic path that’s impossible for viewers to forget, with every heartwrenching moment portrayed perfectly by Juno Temple. An often-overlooked World War II movie due to its focus on a doomed romance rather than the conflict itself, 2007’s Atonement was directed by Joe Wright and based on the novel of the same name by Ian McEwen. The cast is led by Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, whose performances both ensured that Atonement was released to significant critical acclaim. However, it also marks one of the best Juno Temple movies thanks to her role as Lola Quincey. In Atonement, Lola (the 15-year-old cousin of Keira Knightley’s Cecilia and Saoirse Ronan’s Briony Tallis) is violently sexually assaulted by an unseen man on the grounds of the Tallis estate. Due to witnessing McAvoy’s Robbie making love to Cecilia, Briony falsely accuses him of being the man responsible for Lola’s traumatic ordeal.

JUNO: China's Deep Underground Neutrino Observatory Prepares for First LightPhysicists are nearing completion on the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), a massive detector designed to unlock the secrets of neutrinos. Located 700 meters underground in China, JUNO's 35-meter acrylic sphere filled with 20,000 metric tons of liquid scintillator will capture faint light flashes produced when antineutrinos interact with protons. The observatory will monitor antineutrinos released by nearby nuclear power plants, aiming to determine the mass hierarchy of neutrinos, a fundamental question in particle physics.
