Today's Alaska weather forecast from Alaska's Weather Source.

ANCHORAGE , AK - Ongoing winter weather concerns continue to slam the Southeast in what is a historic snowstorm for the region. For many areas, the three-day storm total has been 3–4 feet, with some areas exceeding that.

With more snow to be expected, avalanche concerns will increase as we welcome in the new year.Winds have died down across much of Southcentral, although the occasional gusts up to 25 mph will be possible for inland areas. Even stronger winds remain for Seward and areas of Prince William Sound, where gusts up to 55 mph will be possible. A blizzard warning will go into effect at 11 a.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday. Visibility could be greatly reduced in whiteout conditions, so prepare accordingly if you are heading out on the roads. While blizzard conditions will grip areas of Prince William Sound, the rest of Southcentral will hold onto a dry and quiet weather pattern. While we can’t rule out some flurry potential, the best chance for any snow will remain for coastal areas near the area of low pressure. As we transition into a new year, bitter cold weather will settle into Southcentral. This will likely bring us even colder conditions than we’ve experienced so far this season. We could see a stretch of 2–3 days into the new year, where highs struggle to break into the single digits. While the cold remains, there’s little in the way of snow in the forecast over the next seven days.A multi-day storm system has been bringing rounds of snow and heavy rain to the region, where many locations have seen records continue to accumulate. Videos sent into Alaska’s News Source show heavy freezing spray and snow, which has accumulated on barges near Hoonah. This ongoing winter weather event will carry us into the new year, with Juneau likely to add an additional foot or so to its December snowfall record. As of Monday evening’s climate report, the official snowfall for December is sitting at 63.4 inches, nearly nine inches more than the previous record set back in 1964. Southeast remains under two different air masses, with cold air to the north and warm air to the south. This has led to a stark contrast in temperatures, with 20s and 30s to the north, while areas of the southern Panhandle climb into the 40s and lower 50s. As a result of this, heavy rain has led to areas of minor flooding, where water was reported over Thorne Bay Road, and minor flooding in the Ward Lake area. While the flood advisory has been allowed to expire, additional rain could lead to minor flooding in poor drainage areas. It remains a different story to the north, where ongoing heavy snow and a rain/snow mix remain in the forecast. An additional 10–18 inches of snow will fall for the northern and central Panhandle, which will bring some areas over 70 inches of snowfall for the month of December. Should we see this for Juneau, this will smash the previous record by nearly 20 inches. Expect ongoing heavy snow to remain with us into the new year for the northern half of the Panhandle, with little change in the snowy weather into the weekend.Occasional visibility reduction is possible this morning, where ice fog remains. However, many areas are seeing improved conditions when it comes to the ice fog. Bitter cold continues to linger for the Interior as overnight lows have dropped anywhere from -20 to -50 degrees. This continues to be the coldest stretch of weather for many in the Interior since the 1980s. While we’ll continue to maintain a bitterly cold weather pattern, some light snow showers will be possible for far southern and southeastern reaches of the Interior. This will amount to very light accumulation. Highs into the new year will stay around -30 below, while overnight lows will drop anywhere from -40 to -50.Some warmer weather will remain with areas of the western North Slope through midweek, with highs expected to remain in the single to double-digit values above zero. It’s a different story for the eastern half of the Slope, where highs will continue to remain below zero. While we can’t rule out some flurries in the forecast, little to no snow accumulation is possible. Expect a stretch of colder weather to arrive as we close out the year and welcome in 2026. A low approaching Western Alaska this morning will keep light snow in the forecast for the Bering Strait Coast, Western Brooks Range, St. Lawrence Island and through parts of the Seward Peninsula. While snowfall totals will generally remain on the light side, we could see up to 2–4 inches of snow accumulation, with the highest in the Western Brooks Range. We’ll continue to hold onto some gusty winds out of the north for Western Alaska, with the return to drier and colder weather as we welcome in the new year.Gusty winds remain with the Aleutians, with rain set to increase in the Eastern Aleutians into the evening hours. Our ridge of high pressure, which has been dominating the North Pacific, will back off in the coming days. This will open the door for more active weather to sweep through the Aleutians, which will also drive in a push of warmer air. We’ll likely see highs climbing back into the 40s, gusty winds and rain returning to the region.2026 will begin where 2025 ends, that being on a bitter cold note. While heavy snow will continue to impact the panhandle into the new year, many areas of Alaska will continue a dry and cold spell. The upcoming cold snap will likely lead to even colder conditions for many areas, with a stretch of lows near -55 possible for the coldest parts of the Interior. Even here in Southcentral, we’ll see at least 2–3 days where highs may not budge above zero degrees. Our snowfall deficit in Southcentral will continue to climb, although there are signs January could be a more active month.24/7 Alaska Weather: Get access to live radar, satellite, weather cameras, current conditions, and the latest weather forecast here.
