A high-level meeting between the Hawks and National Prosecuting Authority took place on Friday to sign off on a second wave of high-level arrests linked to the July 2021 unrests.

Hawks head Godfrey Lebeya told News24 on Friday investigations into more alleged masterminds behind the unrest that claimed the lives of 354 people last July was"99% complete". A decision on when the state would be ready to arrest and prosecute the suspects, some believed to be high-profile, was imminent.
