Sam Boyer's column about people and events in Medina County

The old hay wagon got a new set of wheels for the July 7 parade in Brunswick . Note the gazebo moved from Towslee Elementary School in the background at Heritage Farm.BRUNSWICK, Ohio – It’s going to be a very busy month. Let’s start with the near future: July 7. For the first time in several years, there will be a parade in Brunswick . At 2 p.m. marchers and riders will step off from the Brunswick Middle School on Pearl Road and head to the high school via Pearl and then Center roads.

Many of the participants have been displaying their hay balers and other equipment around the county as a preview and they will have at least two of them at the July 14 Summer at the Farm at Heritage Farm, 4613 Laurel Road. The outdoor market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. is buzzing about having them there and if the crowd is as good as the Cranksters Model A display, it will be lots of fun. The kids will really like it.

In the evening the Breakfast Kiwanis Club will provide pie and ice cream for those who will attend the Medina Community Band concert on the square. Three flavors of ice cream and a wide variety of pies will be available to concert attendees. Visit the Kiwanis tent to make your selection while supporting the clubs’ many service projects with your donations. The Medina County Historical Society will have an open house from 1-4 p.m. July 21 at the McDowell-Phillips House Museum, 205 S. Prospect St.

Not participating with your frog? No worries – there is plenty of additional family fun available. Games, train rides for kids, petting zoo, pony rides, food court, beer and wine tents and live entertainment at the pavilion are just some of the things to enjoy during the event in addition to cheering on the frogs and their jockeys. There will also be plenty of vendors selling a variety of merchandise.
