Police in Kaysville said Monday that a 12-year-old girl was critically injured after a car hit her during an Independence Day parade.

The department said the child was taken to a hospital, and the girl was last known to be in critical condition.Police said the site would be closed for several hours while they investigate. Drivers were encouraged to avoid the area.
“This is a tragic event and our hearts go out to the child’s family,” the department said in the Facebook post. “We will continue to release updates as we gather further information.”
