Julie Bowen recalls being 'pit against' her 'Modern Family' costar Sofía Vergara by the press, saying they 'kept trying to make me and Sofía sort of Betty and Veronica.'
"The press kept trying to make me and Sofía sort of Betty and Veronica," the actress told Jennie Garth on her "I Choose Me" podcast.Bowen discussed how she felt pressured by the press to appear in conflict with Vergara, who played her stepmother on the long-running sitcom."They were just determined to pit us against each other, like we hated each other," she said."It's this scarcity mindset that there's only one woman who can be happy at a time.
As Bowen explained to Garth, the "feud" between the two stars had been entirely fabricated. "I love Sofía, and I love how different we are, and I love that she is funny and self-effacing and bawdy, and she loves life and she loves dancing and eating cake, and all of these things."She continued, "I learned so much from being around her about what it is to be a really powerful, completely in herself woman.
Garth is no stranger to being pit against a female costar either, as Bowen pointed it out."I know they did that with you and Shannen," she said, referring to equally long-standing and unfounded rumors of a rivalry between Garth and herstar.
