Chris Garza was required to register as a sex offender in Colorado. He says that shouldn’t keep him from entering Judson ISD properties.

A Kirby city councilman ousted in Saturday’s election told the Judson Independent School District board Monday that it is “unfair” to ban him from campuses because of his previous status as an out-of-state sex offender. Christopher Garza said he should have access to Judson ISD property because he pays taxes and is a district alumnus. The board rejected the request. Garza had filed a formal grievance and Monday’s hearing on it was held in public at his request.

Before that, how a campus responded was up to the superintendent and school administrators. “I want to know how many people, after changing this, did it affect? Because I only know of one, and it was me,” Garza said. The district had rejected Garza’s level two grievance after a hearing in March and he appealed.
