House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler told reporters that former acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker would not deny talking with President Trump about former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen
Nadler said Whitaker's response came after he was pressed in a closed-door session following the CNN report from December that Trump twice vented to Whitaker about federal prosecutors who referenced the President's actions in crimes Cohen pleaded guilty to.But the top Republican on the committee, Rep. Doug Collins of Georgia, disputed Nadler's characterization, saying Whitaker told them he"did not talk with the president about Mr. Cohen at all.
"The House Judiciary Committee leaders met with Whitaker behind closed doors Wednesday.CNN first reported Trump's complaints to Whitaker in December. Trump was frustrated, the sources said, that prosecutors Whitaker oversaw at the time filed charges that made Trump look bad. None of the sources suggested that the President directed Whitaker to stop the investigation, but rather lashed out at what he felt was an unfair situation.Read MoreThis story is breaking and will be updated.
