Baltimore didn't just beat the Lions; it destroyed them. But history tells us to be careful with our expectations.
With Baltimore’s 32-point blowout of Detroit, there’s a temptation to paint the Ravens as a Super Bowl contender … and maybe they will be. But I’d be cautious, and not just because we’re only seven weeks into the season or because Baltimore plays in the toughest, most competitive division in the NFL. No, there's another factor that makes me wary.No question, the Ravens delivered a message with Sunday’s 38-6 victory.
Granted, in both seasons they lost Jackson to injuries down the stretch. He missed a combined 10 starts, and the Ravens wilted without him. Nevertheless, it’s a cautionary tale that Jackson himself seems to understand. In the aftermath of his best game of the season Sunday, one where he was responsible for four touchdowns , he was asked about the magnitude of the victory ... and, as you'd expect, he expressed satisfaction with the performance.
Not much, that’s what. They’re 1-3, with Jackson throwing three touchdowns and five interceptions. Trust me, Jackson doesn’t need to be reminded. In fact, I have to believe that was behind his comment Sunday. -- That's the fourth straight game where Green Bay scored three or fewer points in the first half, the first time that’s happened since 1990.
