A U.S. District Judge has issued a temporary restraining order barring the DOGE team and other Trump administration officials from accessing the Treasury system for at least one week due to concerns about potential data breaches and heightened security risks.
A U.S. District Judge has issued a temporary restriction on the DOGE team and other Trump administration officials, barring them from accessing the Treasury system for at least one week. Judge Paul Engelmayer cited concerns about the potential exposure of sensitive and confidential information, as well as an elevated risk of hacking.
This order prohibits the administration from granting access to political appointees, special government employees, and government employees detailed from agencies outside the Treasury Department to any Treasury payment records, systems, or data containing personally identifiable information and/or confidential financial information of payees. \Engelmayer's decision stems from a warning issued by the Treasury's Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS) threat intelligence team on Thursday. The BFS, responsible for trillions of dollars in annual payments, alerted employees about potential DOGE group activity within their systems. The team recommended immediate suspension of DOGE member access to payment systems and a comprehensive review of their actions. They also advised placing DOGE members under insider threat monitoring and alerting after revoking their access. \The email highlighted reports from other federal agencies indicating that DOGE members had performed unauthorized changes and locked civil servants out of sensitive systems. The BFS emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that continued DOGE access to payment systems, even in a 'read-only' capacity, posed the single greatest insider threat risk the Bureau has ever faced. The judge's order mandates the immediate destruction of any downloaded material from Treasury records and systems by the administration
