The gun charges against former San Ysidro High School basketball star Mikey Williams can proceed to trial, an El Cajon Superior Court judge ruled in a preliminary hearing Tuesday. Williams was arrested in April and charged with six felony counts of discharging a gun at an occupied vehicle, stemming from a late-night incident at the $1.2 million hilltop home he owns in Jamul. Authorities said none of the car’s five occupants was hit.
“The circumstantial evidence certainly supports he is the person who had fired on the accusers,” Thompson-Taylor said in her ruling to proceed to a jury trial. Troy P. Owens, Williams’ attorney, argued that “any shots that were fired could have been fired in self-defense” because his accusers came to the house uninvited and wouldn’t immediately leave when asked. One of them, according to testimony, allegedly threatened to “kill” his pitbull moments before the shots were fired at the car.
