FILE - A man walks out of the memorial for the victims of a shooting at Sutherland Springs First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, on Nov. 12, 2017. After the shooting on Nov. 5, in which 26 people were killed and 20 others were wounded, the church was repaired and turned into a memorial sanctuary. On Monday, the deputy clerk for Wilson County told reporters that the judge denied the motion to extend the temporary restraining order that prevented the building’s demolition.
In 2017, 26 people were killed in the sanctuary when a gunman opened fire, injuring 22 others. Members of the congregation voted to demolish the old building in 2021 after a new church was constructed in 2019.
