Some glued themselves to the road, one to a police car and another, Mary Adams, 68, blocked an ambulance on its way to hospital. But District Judge Stephen Leake told three activists — Karen Matthews, 60, Ian Bates, 63, and Biff Whipster, 54 — they had “inspired” him with their speeches in court aboutHowever he acknowledged their actions caused “significant disruption” to the motorway at Swanley, Kent.
Judge Leake said at Crawley magistrates court in West Sussex: “I intend to do what I can to reduce my own impact on the planet.
