Judge Clifton Newman told more than 300 students at Cleveland State University that he believes Alex Murdaugh loved his wife, Maggie, and his son, Paul – even though he murdered them.

The South Carolina circuit judge stood by his decision to allow in pivotal evidence of Murdaugh's expansive telling the spectators,"Once a defendant takes the stand and testifies, almost everything is fair game at that point."
