Aaron Judge homered twice, reaching 30 home runs for the sixth time in his career, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. drove in four runs as Marcus Stroman earned his first win since August 30th, leading the New York Yankees to a resounding 12-5 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Sunday. Judge connected for two-run homers in the fourth inning off Luis Severino and again in the seventh against fellow Fresno, California native Tyler Ferguson. This marked his 44th career multi-homer game.
Cody Bellinger added a three-run homer for the Yankees, who secured two out of three games in the series, marking only their second series win in the past two and a half weeks.Severino (2-9), making his return to Yankee Stadium, was pulled from the game with a 7-0 deficit. The struggles against his former team continued, this time exacerbated by shaky defense. He has surrendered 15 runs across two starts against New York this year. Chisholm put the Yankees ahead with his third homer in four games in the second inning and further extended the lead to 4-0 with a bases-loaded triple in a four-run third.Chisholm is currently riding a hot streak, batting .318 with six homers, 18 RBIs, and four stolen bases since returning from a strained right oblique on June 3rd. He appeared to injure his right hand while attempting to check a swing in the sixth inning, but he remained in the game. Stroman (1-1), who had been sidelined due to left knee inflammation, secured his first win since August 30th. He allowed three hits, including Willie MacIver's fifth-inning home run. Severino, a two-time All-Star for the Yankees from 2015-23, gave up seven runs – six earned – on five hits, three walks, two hit batters, a wild pitch, and two home runs. Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe was ejected for the first time in his career after striking out to end the eighth inning, by first base umpire Chad Fairchild
