He continued, “It feels like you're just there and there's no way out. There's no one to save you. You just have to listen to what they say to you and be prepared for criticism or be prepared for getting clowned on, like I do people. So I feel I have a newfound respect for those folks, the litigants.” Mathis donned the 24-karat golden carrot costume for the show, which he declared was a “perfect match” for him and “really reflected that Detroit style and my coolness.” THE MASKED SINGER: 14k Karot Carrot on "Star Trek Night" of THE MASKED SINGER airing Wednesday, Mar. 18 on FOX. ©2026 Fox Media LLC. The 65-year-old sang a hit from Motown, ‘Hold On, I’m Comin’” by Sam & Dave, but that was a song chosen for him. “I would have won if they'd allow me to choose the songs with that falsetto, I got,” he joked, adding that Motown “was a great inspiration because of Smokey and Berry Gordy are now friends.” “But as a child, I would stand in front of Motown like many other kids, and we sing on the grass when they walk by, either , Smokey or a producer, and we sing and try and get them to take us in. And so now I'm on national television. I'm a big star. I'm famous, and Smokey and Barry Gordy missed out,” Mathis teased. He also revealed that he texted Robinson after the show, but he hasn’t responded yet. “I said he should have signed me on the show,” Mathis joked. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - MARCH 04: Judge Greg Mathis attends the 9th Annual Truth Awards at Taglyan Complex on March 04, 2023 in Los Angeles, California. Mathis is able to count Motown legends Robinson and Gordy as friends, along with other musicians like Lionel Richie, and the late Reverend Jesse Jackson, something he calls one of the “great blessings of my public life.” The long-time TV judge has been on the air for decades, a fixture of daytime TV with his series “Judge Mathis,” doling out verdicts in small claims disputes. When asked if any one case sticks out to him, he’s quick to answer: “That's the easy one, the one that brought me to tears, the only case in 26 years that brought me to tears.” The case was that of a young man who had moved to San Francisco to live with an aunt after losing both his parents to HIV and drug use. His uncle threw his stuff out because the young man, 21 at the time, happened to come home after midnight. “That's what brought me to tears, because I had a cousin who my mother pretty much turned me over to, and he took me and got me in college, helped mentor me as well,” Mathis explained. “And so I was contrasting what I was seeing from this man who was essentially dogging a young street youth trying to fight his way out and...contrasting that with the man who changed my cousin, my relative, who changed my life when my mother sent me to work under him, to be tutored. That was it, and it brought a tear to my eye.” Like Mathis, the story has a happy ending: the young man went to community college and went on to become the pastor of his own church. Mathis has written an autobiography about his difficult early years, titled “Inner City Miracle,” that also serves as the basis for his latest entertainment endeavor, a live stage show called “Don’t Judge Me.” BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA - FEBRUARY 25: Linda Reese and Greg Mathis attend BET+ "Fighting to Be Me: The Dwen Curry Story" Los Angeles premiere at Fine Arts Theatre on February 25, 2025 in Beverly Hills, California. “It's biographical, and it provides some inspiration and a way out for parents and families who are trying to turn things around that might be trouble in their household. So the book and ‘Don't Judge Me,’ the stage production, very entertaining andinteractive. Folks are going to love it.”The Rochester Police Department said an officer was shot overnight after stopping to talk to someone in the area of Driving Park and Lake avenues.Police said a 5-year-old girl has serious injuries after she and her mother were attacked by a dog Thursday afternoon in Spencerport. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said it's "attempting to check the welfare" of a woman and her son who were reported missing.Township Administrator Jim Brett said the township has received calls from residents concerned about a strong odor coming from the area.An officer for Five Points Correctional Facility has been charged with DWI and obstructing governmental administration following a crash Monday morning.
