Leading fall meeting jockey Juan Hernandez rallied 8-1 long shot Speaking Scout to victory in the Grade I Hollywood Derby and favorites Turn On The Jets and Liguria won the two $100,000 support stakes Saturday on the penultimate day of Del Mar’s ninth fall meeting.
“He didn’t break at all sharp,” said Hernandez of Speaking Scout. “But he put himself in a good spot and I was happy. He’s an intelligent horse. I was just the pilot.” “I was having a nice trip inside, saving ground,” said Hernandez. “I was hoping it would open up for me and then it came. My horse hesitated just a second, then he went through and was good from there.“Turn On The Jets got a great trip from Juan,” said D’Amato, who has clinched the fall meeting trainers’ title. “They just slid right up the rail.”
