The Jacksonville’s Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit and Crime Scene is investigating the death of a man discovered with a head injury Sunday morning in Jacksonville’s Woodstock neighborhood.

Highfill, the man in his 50s was found on Columbus Ave near Melson Avenue after officers responded to a report of an unresponsive person around 3:20 a.m.Officers found the man with an apparent head injury. He was identified as a neighborhood local known to be homeless.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department personnel arrived shortly after and pronounced the man dead at the scene. The cause of death is currently unknown. The Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to help determine the circumstances.
