The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the inmate identified as Joseph Roy Lawson, 43, told officers the day before his death that he snorted an unknown medication.11:05 AM EDT July 16, 2024JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Duval County Jail inmate died on Sunday, one day after his arrest, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office toldJoseph Roy Lawson, 43, was in jail on two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, firefighter, EMT and one count of resisting without violence, according to JSO.

"As a result, officers responded to his location and determined that he was experiencing hallucinations," the release states."He told on-scene officers that he had “snorted” an unknown medication, at which point, officers contacted JFRD in order for Mr. Lawson to be medically evaluated." "As he exited the rescue unit, Mr. Lawson battered a JFRD member as they were attending to him," the release states."JSO officers, still on scene, attempted to take him into custody. While doing so, Mr. Lawson battered one of the JSO officers that were attempting to subdue him."
