The Road Transport Department (JPJ) of Penang has reminded express bus companies in the state to provide a second driver for every journey exceeding 300 kilometers (km) to ensure passenger safety. The regulation also applies to journeys lasting more than four hours to ensure drivers get sufficient rest, thereby reducing the risk of accidents, especially fatal ones. However, many bus company operators have failed to comply with this requirement.
