FILE FILE - Toronto FC forward Jozy Altidore reacts during an MLS soccer match, Oct. 30, 2021, in Atlanta. There are three stations for interviews with soccer officials, players, and interactive games from the FIFA World Cup, promoting what former United States National team player Jozy Altidore calls the World Cup: “It’s like 100 Super Bowls.”There are matches in 10 different U.S. cities “It’s starting to hit, 100 days out,” Altidore said. “You see so much soccer presence at events like the Super Bowl. You’re starting to get that fever and really, really excited for people who don’t know what to expect when it comes to soccer and what they’re going to see in a few months.” Altidore knows about playing in World Cups. He’s participated in the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups and he’s also played internationally and for three MLS teams. United States' Jozy Altidore plays against Mexico during a World Cup qualifying soccer match Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, in Columbus, Ohio. During his career, Altidore scored 42 goals in 115 matches and he’s twice been named U.S. Soccer Federation Player of the Year. But playing in a World Cup has an adrenaline rush for a player, and Altidore says it gives you a sense of pride because you’re representing your country and family.“The World Cup is going to be like 100 Super Bowls, that’s really what it is,” he said. “It’s the global game. There’s going to be over 6 billion, 8 billion viewers. It’s something we don’t see often. It’s incredibly exciting, the fever pitch is at an all-time high and for me, as a soccer player, I can’t wait to see the ripple effect and the new fans and the excitement that it will bring.”It’s fair to say the Super Bowl is the biggest event in this country. The FIFA World Cup is just on another level with the passion from fans who will follow their favorite team.“I love this team, actually, it’s a team for the big moments,” said Altidore, who will work the World Cup games for FOX Sports. “Not a lot of teams shy away, but this team is going to answer the bell when it comes to these big moments and I’m excited to see them in these matchups and see how the public reacts to it.”Dallas ramps up World Cup logistics, focusing on transit, Fair Park and local businessesThis is my 15th year covering the Dallas Cowboys.
