Jose Altuve exited Team Venezuela’s World Baseball Classic game against the United States on Saturday after he was hit by a pitch.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Astros second baseman Jose Altuve exited Team Venezuela’s World Baseball Classic game against the United States on Saturday after he was hit in the right hand by a pitch.
The Astros said in a statement that Altuve is being evaluated for a right hand injury and they will provide an update on Sunday. FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported during the game broadcast that the “initial fear” is a broken right thumb, though the diagnosis is not confirmed. Batting in the bottom of the fifth inning and facing a 1-2 count, Altuve appeared to get hit on the right hand or wrist by a 96 mph fastball from Colorado Rockies reliever Daniel Bard.
Altuve stayed face down on the dirt for a few seconds before exiting the game with a trainer. Altuve went into Team Venezuela’s clubhouse without moving his right arm.
