Katy ISD had yet to produce a 7-on-7 state tournament qualifier before Saturday. The district was assured of two in the final games at Tompkins High School.
Tompkins makes its third state 7-on-7 appearance, qualifying in 2018 and 2021. Jordan makes its second, qualifying last year.Jordan capped a perfect tournament run against Katy, with touchdowns by Deacon Stanfield, Zechariah Sample and Andrew Marsh building a 29-7 lead. A deep ball to Sample from Colin Willetts just before halftime started to break the game open for the Warriors, some of whom have played together since middle school.
"Defense has stepped up a lot since last year," Willetts said."We got new key defensive players and they're going to step up for us this year."
