Joran van der Sloot pleaded guilty Wednesday morning in federal court for wire fraud and extortion. The charges are in connection to Van der Sloot taking money

for wire fraud and extortion. The charges are in connection to Van der Sloot taking money from Natalee Holloway's mother, Beth Holloway, in exchange for information about the teenager's disappearance in Aruba. The Mountain Brook graduate went missing in 2005 while on a class trip.

As part of the plea agreement, Van der Sloot had to truthfully disclose what happened to Natalee Holloway. Those details had to be corroborated. According to the judge and Beth Holloway, while in court today, Van der Sloot confessed to the murder of Natalee Holloway, however, that confession can't be used against him for anything other than today's sentencing.

Twenty years is the maximum he can get under each count for wire fraud and extortion. Those two sentences are going to run concurrently. This will also run concurrent to the time Van der Sloot is serving in Peru after being convicted three of murdering college student Stephany Flores.Since the sentences he is serving in Peru and in the United States are running concurrent to each other, he will not serve any time in the United States.

Holloway was never found and an Alabama judge declared Holloway legally dead in January 2012. Van der Sloot was never charged in connection to her death or disappearance in Aruba.
