We chat with Creed3 star Jonathan Majors about collaborating with Michael B. Jordan on crafting the character of Dame, walking out to Nipsey Hussle, and his future in the Creed-verse:
Creed 3 stars Jonathan Majors as the new villain, Damian "Dame" Anderson, who is also a childhood friend of Adonis. Adonis is thriving professionally in the boxing world and personally with a beautiful wife and daughter until Dame reappears in his life after being released from prison. Dame, a former boxing prodigy, wants Adonis' help to get a shot in the ring and prove he still has what it takes to be a champion.
Jonathan Majors: He's everybody. Some fighters kind of match. But for the most part, a lot of that was due to my boxing coach, Rob Sally, and my acting partner, Michael B. Jordan. I also had to tell my character's story via body movement, and Rob Sally is [an] Encyclopedia of fighters. He knew everyone who used any type of move; he knew those guys. And could give me references, lots of YouTube videos, but none specific. Just everybody.
Now leave the anime stuff to him because his lexicon on that stuff is just out of the roof. So he was referencing things that he knew from his childhood and just things he loves so much. And that intention and love and ambition were in those final rounds for sure.
