A month into a new war in the Middle East, the president is avoiding questions to talk about his ballroom instead.. The country’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has already raised gas prices in the United States and threatens to cause shortages of other goods. But those are relatively minor consequences compared to what the people in Iran have already dealt with, and even Fox News expressed concern for the Iranian people when talking to President Trump. “I think it is alarming that we have not been able to see or hear from any of the Iranian people, and I think there is some general worry about them. Do you have any insight into how they are doing? Do they have drinking water? Do they have food?” asked one panelist on a clip Stewart played from. “I do,” responds Trump. “But first, remember when we had lunch years ago in the base of Trump tower when it was a brand new building? … Now I’m not allowed to say this, it’s the end of my political career, but you may be even better looking, okay?” The exchange is just one of many examples Stewart cites to argue that Trump either doesn’t care or can’t seem to remember that he’s started a war in Iran. A question about Iran on Air Force One gets a quick admission that he is seeking regime change before he goes off on a tangent about his latest plans for the White House ballroom. Trump later goes off on a long tangent about Sharpies. “The war, other than the occasional tweet, doesn’t seem to occupy any space in Trump’s brain,” says Stewart. This is also happening as the annual CPAC is held and as speakers openly advocate for Trump to get a third term as president. “This is the line we face in this country: No kings versus kings,” says Stewart at the end of the segment. “But a word of caution—generally with monarchies, the first guy is the best guy.” Check out the whole segment below.
