Rangers president of baseball operations Jon Daniels recently joined G-Bag Nation on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM] to talk about the Rangers’ season...

to talk about the Rangers’ season post-trade deadline.Q: How tough is it to watch this team right now as they fall further under .500?Yeah, no doubt. Between Baltimore and Seattle, I think we’re 0-13 the last four or five weeks, those two teams have really hurt us in the standings. A few of our games early in Baltimore were one-run games, heartbreakers, and this past week we just didn’t play well.

Really, he’s throwing very similar to how he did the first couple months of last year, and we just felt the time was now just because of the opportunity. Cole continued to throw well, and you know he missed three years with two Tommy John surgeries, that’s been well-documented. Super talented kid. Really bright, poised. I just think the biggest thing we’re looking for [from Ragans] is just him to not change because of the size of the stadium or the big league opponent.

We talk almost every day after games, at home certainly we do. On the road somebody’s usually there. In-game decisions, it’s less about that quite frankly, more about things we saw, things we need to prepare, things the coaching staff can address with the players. Any kind of playing time or opportunities we want to see different guys get, any moves. There’s pretty regular, honest discussions and feedback, both ways.

Hopefully we’ll get some of the young guys up here, we’ll see if they can provide us a shot in the arm, play with some energy, as well as getting Jon Gray back will be a big boost, and Brad Miller will come back swinging the bat the way he’s capable of.Yeah, we really talked about it dating back to last winter. We thought about the possibility, would we rather utilize those plate appearances, to see Ezequiel Duran, or bring Joey back.

But that’s it, putting players in position to succeed and getting the most out of them, I think that’s how I’m evaluated as an executive and that’s how Woody’s evaluated as a manager.
