Founded in 1968 in Washington, D.C., Burke is an independent, progressive school for 315 students in 6th-12th grade. Drawing from more than 60 zip codes, and all eight wards of D.C., Burke is the place for creative, curious, independent thinkers — looking to enact positive change in their communities.
With their own dedicated spaces, Burke’s Middle School and High School provide distinct educational and social experiences, tailored to the needs of that age group; Burke also fosters connections across grade levels, through performing arts, athletics, assemblies, and an annual all-school art installation.
On Burke’s campus, younger students have a clear view of what comes next — while still having their own spaces. Older students can be mentors and leaders throughout their high school careers, not only as seniors. Just down the block from the Van Ness Metro and a short walk from Rock Creek Park, Burke offers access to D.C.’s myriad resources. Science classes often head to nearby trails and parks, while history and arts courses frequent dozens of galleries and museums.
The Open House takes place from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. for Middle School and from 1:30-3:30 p.m. for High School.
