JOHOR BARU: Some 430 policemen have been deployed statewide to monitor traffic conditions in conjunction with Chinese New Year and the holiday season.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said that Ops Lancar and Ops Selamat are being conducted between Jan 18 and Jan 27 to ensure road users experience a smooth and safe journey throughout the festive season.hotspots during the period.

“Special attention will also be given to the two land crossings between Johor and Singapore that are expected to experience heavy traffic during Chinese New Year,” he said in a statement here on Saturday . He added that as of the third day of the operations, some 852 accidents have been reported, including six cases that involved the death of seven people.

“Based on the statistics obtained so far, most of the accidents happened on roads in town areas. A total of 438 cases are from such roads.He urged the public to drive carefully, control their emotions when on the road and to plan their journey back home well to ensure a smooth ride for all road users.
