Johor cops nab five foreigners for stealing scrap metal from barge

'(The) confiscated items are worth around RM220,000. The suspects are currently under remand from July 3 until July 16,' said Comm Kamarul Zaman.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the arrest was made by the Marine Police Region 2 during the"Ops Taring Gelora" patrol in the area at 8.50pm on Saturday .

"The team noticed two small wooden boats acting suspiciously at 4.2 nautical miles south-east of Tanjung Stofa, in Pengerang waters."There were a few suspects on top of the metal pile hauling it into the small boat," he said in a statement here on Sunday .All of the suspects, aged between 18 and 38, were later arrested, along with the two boats and scrap metal.

"All confiscated items are worth around RM220,000. The suspects are currently under remand from July 3 until July 16," said Comm Kamarul Zaman. The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft and Section 6 of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering the country and staying without valid travel documents.
