House Speaker Mike Johnson is rejecting a Senate-passed DHS funding measure, saying Friday he will instead bring a 60-day continuing resolution to fund the entire department to the floor.“It’s infuriating that Democrats are willing to inflict pain on the American people simply so they can defund the agency that is responsible literally for removing criminal illegal aliens,” Johnson told reporters on Friday.
“That’s what this is about. They just put it on display for the country again what they’re for, and I think it is detestable.”Meanwhile, President Donald Trump on Friday signed a memorandum directing DHS to pay TSA employees, after promising to address the impasse that left airport security workers missing paychecks for weeks.DHS confirmed the change on Friday, saying the first paychecks would reach TSA workers 'as early as Monday, March 30.'RELATED STORY | The shutdown is doing more than just dragging out TSA wait timesOvernight, the Senate advanced a measure to fund most of DHS, but it does not include funding for immigration enforcement — a key sticking point for House Republicans.Democrats have pushed for changes to immigration enforcement, including requiring ICE agents to show identification, avoid masks and limit operations near sensitive locations such as hospitals and schools.RELATED STORY | TSA may now get paid, but Congress is still deadlocked on the root problemThe legislation does include funding for the Transportation Security Administration, aiming to address the mounting disruptions at airports nationwide.
