Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard in a Fairfax County courtroom on Thursday, April 21, 2022During a brief cross-examination period Wednesday, Depp said Heard's allegations that he physically and sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions -- before and during their brief marriage -- devastated his career.Johnny Depp is expected to take the stand once again Thursday in a Fairfax County, Virginia courtroom in the defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard.
Depp was on the stand both Tuesday and Wednesday taking questions from his own attorneys before about 20 minutes of cross-examination yesterday. His cross-examination by Heard's lawyers is expected to continue into the afternoon today.Depp said the accusations and the article contributed to an unfairly ruined reputation that made him a Hollywood pariah and cost him his role in the lucrative "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie franchise.
Heard’s lawyers have also argued that Depp has no credibility when he denies abusing Heard because he frequently drank and used drugs to the point of blacking out and failing to remember anything he did. Rottenborn also focused on another of Depp’s texts to Bettany in 2014 in which he referenced whiskey, pills and powders.
Depp had previously testified that he took two oxycodone pills — an opiate to which he admits he was addicted at the time — and locked himself in the plane bathroom and fell asleep to avoid her badgering. He had also previously testified that he drank only a glass of Champagne as he boarded the plane.
